A Little Light Goes a Long Way
Real Live-Action Candle Flames for Every Mood, Moment, and Gust of Wind
A candle flame is tiny, but the audience always notices when it's wrong. The flicker is too regular, the glow doesn't move, or the flame refuses to react when a door slams. Today we're releasing three brand-new FX packs built to fix exactly that: Candle – Pack 1, Candle – Pack 2, and Candle – Pack 3, featuring 88 real live-action candle flames filmed against a black background on RED cinema cameras.
Each pack is delivered in 4K ProRes and 4K EXR, with the original RED R3D files included at native resolutions ranging from 4K to 8K. Whether you need a flame to sit still, catch fire, blow out, dance in a breeze, or stubbornly relight itself, there's a clip here for it.
Candle – Pack 1
Candles – Pack 1 is the workhorse collection: 26 live-action candle flames covering everything from a perfectly steady burn to one gently swaying in a light draft. These are the clips you'll reach for on a dinner table, a church vigil, a bedside in a period drama, or a horror set where the flame needs to waver just enough to unsettle the room.
Because every flame is practical, the subtle stretch, lean, and flicker hold up even in extreme close-up. Use a single clip to bring a prop candle to life, or stack several to fill a candelabra or a room full of votives.
Candles – Pack 2
Candles – Pack 2 is all about the moments a candle comes alive and goes dark. Its 31 live-action clips feature wicks catching fire and blooming into a full flame, alongside flames being blown out, sputtering, and dissolving into a curl of smoke.
These transitions are surprisingly hard to fake and nearly impossible to time correctly on set, which makes this pack a lifesaver when a candle needs to light or die on cue. A match-to-wick moment in a thriller, a birthday wish, or the last flame going out in a haunted house: the ignition and extinguish clips drop straight onto your plate.
Candles – Pack 3
Candles – Pack 3 brings a little mischief to the library. Its 31 live-action clips feature trick candles being blown out, sparking back to life, and stubbornly reigniting, plus a selection of standard candles pushed around by a strong gust of wind.
The trick candle clips are perfect for birthday party comedy beats, magical objects, and any flame that simply refuses to stay out, while the windblown candles sell a slammed door, a sudden storm, or a ghost drifting through the room. The fine sparks and the crisp edge of each flame hold up beautifully even when scaled or slowed down.
